Mark Tribe’s Rare Earth at Momenta Art

marktribe-6In his latest work, Mark Tribe explores the blurring boundaries between real and fiction in the context of combat video games and training grounds of right-wing militia groups. Even though the landscapes look real, they are actually computer generated simulations – taken from video games, who in turn recall landscape art in the traditions of the Hudson River School painters, as well as from an actual video of a militia training ground in Upstate New York. The artist questions if this mash-up of fiction and reality has implication on modern warfare, in a time when militia members are avid gamers, and predator drones flown by pilots weaned on video games. (Through June 18th at Momenta Art, 56 Bogart Street, Brooklyn, New York 11206).
